Presenting…our new monthly Pooch Party at Metrodeco

dogs

By Maggie Morgan,

Co-owner, Metrodeco

Tuesday (November 3rd, 2pm-4pm) sees the launch of our monthly Pooch Party at Metrodeco in conjunction with Black and Tan, the dog care company.

Our aim is to celebrate what a wonderful gift it is to have a canine companion and what makes it even better is if your best friend is reasonably well-behaved.

I have had dogs for most of my adult life and not all of them would have graduated from dog training school, I’m sorry to say. But with advice and guidance, I’m sure they would have done. Believe you me there is nothing worse than being in a park full of well-behaved dogs and yours not only stealing everyone’s ball but completely ignoring you when you’re calling him and then happily cocking his leg and peeing on a man sitting on a bench.

Black & Tan’s Terry Peckham will be on hand to give guidance and advice on all canine concerns from 2pm to 4pm. Don’t let your dog lead you; we all need to take the lead so our dogs are stress-free. Sit and enjoy tea and scones while your dog learns how to socialise. A plate of our delicious doggy treats will be on hand to reward good behaviour.

We’re raising money for the fabulous Karen Lippit and her team at Helping Paws, who have  brought in over 200 dogs from Spain and Portugal for re-homing and also contributed to numerous projects throughout Europe. This organisation is completely dependent on donations and fundraising so come for an afternoon out with your best friend I mean the one with four legs and a loud bark.

Elsie Diamond is back at Metrodeco!

Elsie Diamond is appearing at MetrodecoIt’s been a while but Elsie Diamond is back!

The burlesque performer is due to perform her show at the Edinburgh Fringe in August but is doing an exclusive performance at Metrodeco in Brighton to preview her show.

Elsie’s loyal fans have already booked their seats but we’d love to introduce a new audience to this Northern minx. She’s a true delight on the eyes and the ears – especially if a little cheek and naughtiness is what you like!

A little more about the show

Elsie Diamond, international burlesque performer, compère and singer, presents this one-woman show, inspired by her day job: dresser to the stars in the unpredictable world of costume. A comic, sexy and heartfelt piece told through spoken word, song and striptease. With her vintage looks, a voice from a bygone era and exquisite costuming, Elsie transports you effortlessly through different eras while maintaining her very modern sense of humour.

Having worked in opera, theatre and television as a dresser at the same time as moonlighting as a burlesque diva, Elsie has a unique perspective on being on both sides of the curtain. Telling tales from her own and her friends’ careers – with some artistic licence – these stories couldn’t possibly be true…could they?

Booking details

Tickets to see Elsie Diamond at Metrodeco are £10.

The show starts at 7pm on Sunday, July 5th – but doors open at 6.30pm. Come early to get a drink and food and to settle in for the show.

Please call (01273) 677243 to book your ticket. Metrodeco is at 38 Upper St James’s Street, Brighton (map here).

Love is in the air as jazz singer Aneesa Chaudhry plays Metrodeco

Aneesa Choudhry

Aneesa Choudhry

The mood is love on Valentine’s weekend and we certainly love singer/songwriter Aneesa Chaudhry.

Aneesa will be playing her own brand of Jazz, Eastern Flavours, Jazz Asian Fusion, Big Band, pop, contemporary and easy listening at Metrodeco on Sunday February 15th at 6.30pm.

Her first performance at Metrodeco was a sell out and this event will be too. There are only a few tickets left for this Valentine’s performance so if you do want to treat your loved one and yourself to some wonderful music then you can buy through Eventbrite.

Alcoholic drinks, including wines and beers, are available and we have a selection of small but delicious food platters.

Check Aneesa out at her Facebook page. You’ll see how her fans adore her from the reviews – and rightly so!

Happy Valentine’s xxx

Tea cocktails – 1930s style!

By Michael Taggart

Tea cocktails at Metrodeco

By Helen Taggart, tea cocktails correspondent

Long Island Iced Tea is arguably the best known cocktail and with the ingredients including tequila, rum and vodka, it’s quite likely one of the most potent too.

But the truth is it has never been near a tea leaf; it just looks (and, some might say, tastes) rather like a refreshing iced tea.

Now, I can’t lie: I’ve sampled many of these over the years. But as my love of tea has grown and my love of alcohol has persisted, I’m more excited about cocktails that actually really contain tea. Having my own tea shop has given me every opportunity to experiment with tea cocktails.

London and New York have been the fore-runners in this twist on the classic cocktail but our unassuming little tea shop in Brighton has also been delighting customers for years with its tea cocktails.

Our tea cocktails

We have three regular tea cocktails and a cocktail of the month.

Our regulars are:

Divinely Decadent – this is the shop favourite: a vodka cocktail infused with ourDeliciously Decadentfruity infusion and served with cassis, grape juice and limes. It reminds me of summer holidays abroad.

Metrodeco Devil – for this we infuse our ‘The Devil is a Woman’, which is our lemon and ginger green tea, with gin and serve it with ginger beer.

Graham’s Ruin – this is made with ourGraham Greene & Chocolategreen tea. It’s infused in warming rum and served with brandy and orange juice.

Tea cocktail of the month

This month, we’re serving a gin-based earl grey, using our very own blend, Shades of Grey, for a naughty night out. Our friends at the Ginger Dog do a mean tea cocktail using this blend of ours too.

In December, we’re introducing a rum-based cocktail infused with our Masala Chai Express for a spicy little number to warm you up on a cold night out.

Served from teapots and into vintage tea cups or pretty antique glassware the cocktails delight the eye as well as the taste buds.

Do pop in and try one and if you hand the waitress a (homemade) card saying “Shush, cocktail please”, we’ll give you £2 off any tea cocktail.

If you want to book a Cocktail and Canapé evening with friends on a Friday or Saturday, we open until 9pm – a great way to start your night out or celebrations and only £15 per head.

Please call Helen on 07956 978115 to book and for more information……but please don’t tell anyone – we want people to think we are a reputable tea shop and not a drinking den!
